The key to doing your stroke right is being comfortable with putting your face in the water. Following that making sure you are comfortable in general is the next step. It is a common mistake to breath every time you rotate your arm. This can lead to hyperventilation. It’s better to breath on the third revolution and alternate the side (right side then the left side). This balances out th stroke and make things much smoother.

Once your are comfortable move into the water and try it out. Just jump up and bit and start turning your legs like you did when you were on the side of the pool. It might take a bit of practice but this is a good first step!

Just for the record this isn’t something that I invented and honestly don’t remember where in school I picked it up but it really works. It is epically good for fixing writers block.
