The Honeywell RTH8500D also has auto-changeover technology that means it can automatically switch between heating and cooling. It is doubtful, however, as to the usefulness of this function because using the temperature differential between inside and out is a more cost effective way to cool down or warm up a room when the HVAC has exceeded its goals.

In favor of the Lux Products TX9000TS it has two features not found on Honeywell thermostats. They are swing control and keyboard lockout. In conclusion both the Honeywell RTH8500D and Lux Products TX9000TS are fine programmable thermostats with easy to program touchscreen interfaces. They both will save you money on heating and cooling bills. Unless you have multi stage heating, cooling or heat pumps, it is uncertain however whether the higher price is justified for the Honeywell model.

If you are planning to install a garage floor paint on your concrete floor then the most important step happens before you even start rolling out the mixture.  If you don’t prep the floor properly then you are just wasting your time.  Any type of floor paint, whether it is epoxy, latex, or enamel, absolutely must have a clean surface to adhere to.

The first step to cleaning your floor is good old soap and water.  You can get floor detergents but any powder soap will do a good job.  Spray the water on the floor and then cast out the detergent.  Using a floor broom, you can scrub with a lot of downward pressure which helps to loosen any tough dirt or stains.  Once you have scrubbed the entire floor, spray off the soapy mixture and check for contaminants which are still present.  You do this with the bead test.

Watch what the water does after you spray ii on the concrete surface.  It should appear to run off the concrete until the surface is wet but there is no water present.  If instead you see water beading up this means you still have contamination which needs to be removed.  Use a good quality degreaser and again spread it out and scrub with the floor broom.  You especially want to scrub in the areas where the beading occurred but it doesn’t hurt to do the entire floor.  Rinse and check again for beading.  You need to continue to do this step until the water no longer sits on the surface.

If you do the bead test and the entire floor shows beading this usually indicates that the floor has a clear coat applied.  In order to remove this you will need to use a weak muriatic acid solution to etch the floor.  This can be purchased at the same store where you bought the floor paint.

Most people don’t put near enough time into this step of applying garage floor paint because they are in a hurry to get the paint on.  This, unfortunately, leads to a situation where the paint is applied and then peels off within a few weeks or months.  Like most projects around the home, the prepping phase of this activity will dictate how much success you have.  This may sound like a lot of work but really the cleaning should only take about a day and then if you let it dry overnight you can apply the paint the next day.

You may younger than them in terms of the want to build that patio or terrace at the rear of your home that you always wanted. Access is required onto the patio but you can’t decide what type of door system to install. Within a reasonable price you have a couple of options.

The first is French doors. French doors usually come in a pair that swings like a traditional door inwards or outwards. These door systems are available in a range of standard sizes that come in a kit form that can be assembled on-site. If the structural opening is non-standard then some manufacturers will produce a bespoke set of doors to suit your needs at additional cost.

The overall cost to form the opening and install either French doors or sliding type is probably similar depending on the size of the opening. It will come down to your preference and which style will blend in with your existing home.

If you decide on sliding door and opening is quite large, PVC is probably not the best solution and therefore it would be worthwhile to check out aluminum doors. Aluminum is a great material, very strong and versatile but they are generally a lot more expensive than PVC.

The choice is yours at the end of the day but whatever type you decide to install will ultimately be a great asset to your home.
